BWH Opportunities for Fourth Year Medical Students interested in Psychiatry
Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
BWH’s advanced elective in medical psychiatry, directed by Fremonta Meyer MD, provides a rich experience in psychosomatic medicine as well as increased exposure to a broad range of liaison opportunities (including cardiac and lung transplant, OB-GYN, epilepsy, oncology, burn trauma, among others).
Psychosocial Oncology
DFCI and BWH offer an advanced elective in psychosocial oncology and palliative care, directed by John Peteet MD, of which two weeks are spent on the medical psychiatry service seeing oncology patients.
Women’s Mental Health and Neuropsychiatry
Brigham Psychiatric Specialties offers two advanced electives in women’s mental health (Geena Athappilly, MD) and behavioral neurology/neuropsychiatry (Gaston Baslet, MD) which include a combination of outpatient and inpatient exposure.
Our faculty are dedicated to career mentoring of advanced students. We welcome both HMS students and students from other United States medical schools. Please contact the HMS registrar’s office to arrange a rotation.
Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry
BWH offers an elective in addiction psychiatry, directed by Joji Suzuki MD, which provides experience in treating medical inpatients with alcohol and substance use disorders (including in buprenorphine induction and stabilization) as well as training in motivational interviewing.
